Cumberland places 28th in final Learfield Directors' Cup

Cumberland University finished 28th nationally in the recently-released final standings for the 2013 Learfield Sports’ Directors Cup, the program’s best finish in school history.

A school-record seven Cumberland athletic teams reached the NAIA postseason in 2012-13, including women’s soccer, women’s basketball, wrestling, baseball, softball, men’s tennis and women’s tennis, as well as Katie Legge receiving an at-large bid to the women’s golf national tournament.

CU posted 384.50 total points for the year with women’s basketball at the top with 83 points after its third-place showing in the NAIA Championships. Wrestling scored 61.5 points after finishing 14th at the national tournament and women’s soccer recorded 53 points after placing ninth nationally.

Lindsey Wilson finished second overall nationally and the University of the Cumberlands was 11th, the only programs in the Mid-South Conference ranked in the top 50 among the 203 programs around the country that scored points in the final standings.
