Harry Mason tied a career-high with five goals and freshman Josh Armstrong added a goal and two assists in Cumberland’s 7-1 victory over Brescia University in men’s soccer action Saturday in Owensboro, Ky.
Mason scored three times in the first half, including twice in the opening 10 minutes, and Luke Wilson added a score midway through the period, as Cumberland (1-1-0) took a commanding 4-0 advantage at the break. Brescia netted its lone goal early in the second half, but Mason responded with two more goals and Armstrong added the final tally in the waning minutes of the match.
Armstrong assisted on Mason’s first two goals of the match and Josh McCausland had the helper on the final goal of the first half. Francisco Alva assisted on Mason’s final score and Weber Costa, Jr., handed out the assist on Armstrong’s goal.
The Bulldogs outshot the Bearcats, 35-7, in the match. Cumberland plays its home opener this Thursday at 4 p.m. against Union University at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field.
