Elliott Lee scored both of Mount Juliet Christian Academy’s touchdowns and the Saints’ defense held strong in the final minute as they held on to beat host Oakdale 13-6Friday night.
Lee scored on a 12-yard run in the second quarter and added another touchdown in the fourth quarter on a 16-yard pass from Rik Van Mali to give MJCA a 13-0 lead.
But Oakdale (2-2) wasn’t finished.
The hosts scored a touchdown on a short quarterback run with two minutes left, slicing the MJCA to 13-6. Oakdale recovered the onside kick and started driving for a score to possibly tie or win.
But MJCA’s defense held strong, stopping Oakdale on downs after the hosts had driven inside the Saints’ 5-yard line.
“I was very proud of our kids. They battled through the end, and stood tall when they had to,” MJCA coach Jake Roberts said.
Noah Wilson had 10 rushes for 136 yards. Van Mali completed 20 of 33 passes for 193 yards, including six to Zach Jones (62 yards) and four to Race McLean (28).
MJCA’s defense was led by Gilbert Tubbs’ two sacks while Ben Eastin and Evan Tubb had one sack apiece. Lee and Christian Webster both recovered a fumble while Nathan Green and Landon Boyd had an interception.
