FCS’ Gwynne ties for sixth in state golf tournament

MANCHESTER – Friendship Christian junior Bo Gwynne tied for sixth place in the Division II-AA state golf tournament which ended a two-day run Tuesday at Willowbrook.

Gwynne followed Monday’s 78 with a 1-under 71 Tuesday for a 149, tied with St. George’s senior Colin Kraus for sixth place, 10 strokes behind champion Grant Hirschman, also from St. George’s.

Gwynne finished 15th in the state last year and won the Wilson County Challenge Cup this year.

Central girls, MJ boys join LHS girls in region

MT. JULIET — Wilson Central’s girls finished second in the District 9-AAA golf tournament at Pine Creek on Tuesday and will join third-place Lebanon in next week’s Region 5-AAA tourney.

Katie Hutchinson shot an 82 and finished third after winning a one-hole playoff with a par putt to break a tie with Station Camp’s Sydney Koch. Lise Malherbe carded an 85 for the Lady Wildcats.

Lebanon finished third to qualify for its first-ever region to be played next week at Swan Lake in Cookeville.

Mt. Juliet’s Haylee Gold qualified as an individual after shooting a 99. Her teammates, Clarissa Stonecipher and Carson Ruff, finished out of the money after shooting a pair of 106s.

On the boys’ side, Mt. Juliet advanced as a team with a 312, finishing nine strokes ahead of Wilson Central and one behind Station Camp. Hendersonville won with a 293.

Cooper Sears shot a 72, Tucker Hall 76, Eric Dubois 81 and Hunter Mehring 83 for the Golden Bears. Sears tied Hendersonville’s Austin Lancaster for first place but lost a two-hole playoff when Lancaster hit a birdie putt on the second hole.

Central’s Hayden Bramble shot a 76 and Casey Brandon a 77 to qualify for the region as individuals, joining Lebanon’s J.C. McDearman, who snared the final individual berth with a 81.

Finishing on the outside looking in were Central’s Josh Wiseman [82] and Reece Gaddes [86] and Lebanon’s Charlie Booher [82], Hunter Ashworth [84] and Jacob Felkins [85].
