Cumberland men’s basketball coach Lonnie Thompson announced the 2013-14 schedule for the Bulldogs this week, which includes 12 home contests and seven outings against teams that participated in last year’s NAIA National Tournament.

Cumberland will play its first two games of the season at home, opening Nov. 5 versus Oakwood before taking on Mid-Continent on Nov. 7. The Bulldogs will take on Voorhees and Morris in the tournament at Dalton [Ga.] State before beginning Mid-South Conference action Rio Grande and Shawnee State on Nov. 21 and 23, respectively.

CU will return home Dec. 14 to take on former TranSouth Conference member Bethel in a doubleheader with the women. The Bulldogs will face Belhaven and Concordia-Selma in another tournament at Dalton State before Christmas.

Cumberland will return to conference action with home games versus St. Catharine and Campbellsville beginning Jan. 2 and will also face Lindsey Wilson, Georgetown College and the University of the Cumberlands at home during the month. Home contests versus Pikeville and Bluefield will take place in early February and the final regular-season outings will be at home against Shawnee State and Rio Grande on Feb. 27 and March 1, respectively.

Voorhees, Lindsey Wilson, Georgetown and Pikeville reached last year’s NAIA National Tournament, with Lindsey Wilson winning the Mid-South regular season and tournament titles but Georgetown claiming the national championship.

Thompson will begin his 12th season at Cumberland and is returning seven letterwinners while welcoming 10 newcomers to this year’s roster. The most important addition could be the return of forward Lamar Brinkley, who missed last season with a foot injury. The senior averaged 10.3 points and 6.5 rebounds in 2011-12 and 7.5 points and 5.9 boards per contest in 2010-11.
