MT. JULIET — The Mt Juliet Christian football team had a strong passing attack Friday night, but it wasn't quite enough to beat visiting Huntland.

Rik Van Mali threw for 159 yards and a touchdown, but the Saints fell to the Hornets 28-20 in a non-district game at Suey Field.

Van Mali threw 33 times, completing 20. Five of those passes went to Samuel Eastin, who gained 53 yards and scored a touchdown.

Gilbert Russ scored twice for the Saints. One of his four rushes went for a touchdown, and he also recovered a fumble for a touchdown.

Mt. Juliet Christian fell to 1-4. The Saints will host Friendship Christian next week before going on the road for back-to-back games at Pickett County and The King's Academy.

Huntland (2-3), which beat Zion Christian last week, goes on the road next week to play Forrest.
