SMITHVILLE -- Just when it seemed Trousdale County might suffer its first loss of the season, the Yellow Jackets found a way to keep their magical season going here Friday night.

Trousdale spotted host DeKalb County 21 points, then roared back for a 23-21 victory for its seventh straight win.

Trousdale, rated No. 2 in the state by The Associated Press, survived five turnovers and ran its record to 7-0.

DeKalb (4-2) got a pair of touchdown passes from Steven Jennings to take early command. He threw a 10-yard scoring pass to Aaron Patterson to put the Tigers on the scoreboard, then connected on a 12-yarder to Patterson in the third quarter. In between, Divonta Milan had a 68-yard touchdown run.

But down 21-0, the Yellow Jackets were just getting started.

Marquel Claiborne started the scoring with a 13-yard touchdown run to cut the margin to 21-7, and Dillon Burnley's 5-yard touchdown run later in the third period got the Yellow Jackets even closer.

Burnley then scored again in the fourth quarter on a 1-yard run, with Christian Lauderdale's extra point tying the game at 21 with eight minutes.

But with work still to be done, the Yellow Jackets won the game on a safety in the final half-line. DeKalb's punter couldn't field a snap deep in his own territory, and the ball went into the end zone. The punter tried to run the ball out, but was tackled in the end zone for the game-winning points.

Zach Blackwell had 90 rushing yards to spark a rushing attack that featured 71 more from Kenyan Harper and 67 from Burnley. Harper also had two receptions for 15 yards, both team highs.

It was the third win for the Yellow Jackets by either one or two points. Trousdale owned 28-27 wins over Sycamore and Gallatin, the latter victory coming one week ago.

Trousdale County goes on the road next week to face Loretto before playing its final two games against Gordonsville and Red Boiling Springs.
