Lady Bears get 9-AAA finals rematch

Mt. Juliet to face Portland, Lebanon falls in five

PORTLAND — Top-seeded Mt. Juliet worked its way back to the District 9-AAA finals with a 25-18, 25-13, 23-25, 25-19 semifinal  victory over Beech on Tuesday.

The 26-14 Lady Bears will face host Portland, which outlasted Lebanon in five games, at 6 p.m. Thursday on the Lady Panthers floor in a rematch of last year’s final won by PHS. Both teams will play in next week’s Region 5-AAA tournament.

Ryann Amity supplied 16 kills and 13 digs for Mt. Juliet against Beech while Halle Raines racked up 35 assists, Shelby Woodard eight blocks and Allyson Huffman four aces.

Mt. Juliet opened the tournament Monday with a 25-13, 25-10, 25-9 sweep of Gallatin.

Also on Monday, Wilson Central lost to Beech 26-28, 32-30, 25-21, 25-20 in the final first-round match of the day.

Libby Trowbridge totaled 10 kills, four blocks, two aces and a dig for Central while Cassie Bryant banged out six kills, five digs, two blocks and an ace; Delaney McCorkle four kills, two aces, a block and an assist; Jordan Fitzgerald 26 assists, six digs and a kill; Kristen Guethlein seven kills, four digs and an ace; Amy Trice five assists and five digs, Macy Wright five kills and three digs, Claire Smith three digs and a kill, Natalie Walker an ace and a block, Brittany Wiseman 17 digs and Casey Hughes a dig as the Lady Wildcats’ season ended.
