SMYRNA — Mt. Juliet lost its regular-season finale 4-2 at first-year Stewarts Creek on Wednesday night.
The Red Hawks led 1-0 at halftime based on a 26th-minute score. They tacked on scores in the 10th, 19th and 21st minutes of the second half.
Nataya Wade put Mt. Juliet on the board off a free kick in the 33rd minute and Julia Duggan scored unassisted a minute later.
Stewarts Creek collected 20 shots on goal to Mt. Juliet’s 18. Sarah Carter supplied 16 saves for the Lady Bears, who slipped to 6-9-1.
“We didn’t play bad in the first half,” Mt. Juliet coach Ryan Hill said. “We made a lot of mental mistakes in the second half which led to the three goals Stewarts Creek scored. We have had that problem of playing inconsistent and it really hurt us tonight.”
Mt. Juliet will be the No. 4 seed for the District 9-AAA tournament which will begin Saturday at Gallatin. A meeting will be held Friday morning to finalize the pairings. The Lady Bears will likely face either Lebanon, Wilson Central or Gallatin, who are likely going to be tied for fifth place.
