GALLATIN — Mt. Juliet ousted Gallatin from the District 9-AAA soccer tournament 1-0 Saturday.
Riley Wendling scored the only goal in the 14th minute of the second half unassisted.
“We had a lot of chances and we missed a penalty kick in the first half that would have given us some momentum before halftime,” said Mt. Juliet coach Ryan Hill, whose 7-9-1 Lady Bears will face top-seeeded Beech at 6 p.m. tonight in the semifinals at Gallatin. “Gallatin battled the whole game but our defense did a great job keeping them from scoring.”
Sarah Carter supplied seven saves in goal for Mt. Juliet.
In the other bracket, Hendersonville beat Lebanon 8-1 and Station Camp eliminated Wilson Central 4-1 to advance to tonight’s other semifinal at 8 p.m.
Tonight’s winners will met for the championship at 7 p.m. Thursday and advance to next week’s Region 5-AAA tournament.
Mt. Juliet Christian reaches regional
Mt. Juliet Christian secured a berth in this week’s East-Middle Region soccer tournament with a 5-3 win over Ezell-Harding on Saturday in the District 1-A tournament.
Not even a 6-0 loss to Donelson Christian later in the day could keep the Lady Saints out of Thursday’s regional.
Amanda Wall scored three goals and Allison Mahabir the other two against Ezell-Harding. Mahabir had two assists and Kelsey Robbins, Courtney Wall and Marcella Gallione one apiece for the Lady Saints, who led 3-1 at halftime.
“This was a huge win for the Lady Saints,” coach Heather Anderson said. “We came out, gave 100 percent for 80 minutes and never gave up. I’m pleased with the determination and drive the girls had today.”
Olivia Gonzales supplied 18 saves for the Lady Saints.
Valerie Rivas, Cyera Gordon and Mary Beth White scored for Ezell-Harding.
DCA led 4-0 at halftime as the Lady Saints slipped to 6-8.
Emily Hicks had four goals for the Lady Wildcats.
Gonzales totaled 10 saves for the Lady Saints.
