LIBERTY — Watertown’s girls opened their middle school basketball season Tuesday with a 36-21 triumph over Gordonsville in the Best of the [DeKalb] West.
Gordonsville led 6-3 following the first quarter before Watertown used a 13-3 second to propel itself to a 16-9 halftime lead. G’ville closed to within 22-19 going into the fourth.
Maria Alloco scored 17 points and Brenna Luttrell tossed in 12 as each sank a pair of three-pointers for Watertown. McKenna George threw in three points and Meagan Nix and Halie Tunks two apiece.
Watertown will return Thursday for a 5 p.m. semifinal tipoff against Defeated Creek.
