Friendship Christian middle school football star Mike [Mikey] Jones Jr. has been selected to play in the 2014 Eastbay Youth All-American bowl on Jan. 5 at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas.

Jones, who played quarterback on the Commanders' 8-0 team this fall, will play outside linebacker/defensive end for the eighth-grade East team. He will be presented with a jersey at Pirtle Field at 6:45 p.m. tonight before the high school Commanders take on Donelson Christian.

“Mike is perhaps one of the finest athletes we have seen on the camp circuit this past year,” said Erik Richards, FBU national scouting corrector. "Jones Jr. has the physical attributes to play much beyond his current age group. We feel he can be dominant rushing the passer from the perimeter. He displays a football IQ beyond his years on the field."

Jones is a son of former Tennessee Titan defensive lineman Mike Jones Jr., who has served as a coach on the high school, middle school and youth-league level in and around Lebanon since his retirement from pro football.

This will be the sixth annual All-American Bowl. Current Wilson Central sophomore Gabe Angel played in the 2012 game while an eighth-grader at Southside. Angel currently has scholarship offers from Tennessee, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Ole Miss and Mississippi State.
