Cumberland’s Rhianne Parsons has been named the NAIA Women’s Soccer National Offensive Player of the Week the national office announced Tuesday.
Parsons was selected based on her performance from Oct. 14-20 and chosen out of a pool of conference, independent and unaffiliated group winners. Parsons also earned Tennessee Sports Writers Association Player of the Week accolades on Tuesday.
The Tavistock, England, native scored one goal in all three Bulldog matches during the week, including the game-winner in the 88th minute against No. 1-ranked Lindsey Wilson. The senior added two assists, one each at Georgetown College and Rio Grande.
Her header bounced just inside the near post for the only goal of the match versus Lindsey Wilson, the first-ever regular season loss for the Blue Raiders in Mid-South Conference play. Parsons assisted on Shauna Gilpin's goal in the 21st minute and scored in the 29th minute at Georgetown. She assisted on Gilpin's goal in the fourth minute and scored in the 32nd minute at Rio Grande, her 10th goal of the season, second-best on the squad. Parsons also ranks second on the club with 26 points.
Cumberland, 12-1-1 overall and 8-0-0 in Mid-South Conference action, can earn the program’s first-ever regular season conference championship with a win Saturday against Bluefield at 1 p.m. Parsons along with Taylor Schrank and Michelle Ward will be honored between matches of Saturday’s doubleheader with the men as part of Senior Day.
