MADISON, Miss. — Austin Garrett fired a one-under par 71 to earn low medalist honors and Ryan Botts, Zach Johnson and Peyton Broyles all finished in the Top 7, leading Cumberland to a third men’s team championship in three fall events on Tuesday at the Millsaps Collegiate at Deerfield Country Club.
Garrett overcome a one-shot deficit heading into the final round, picking up his second victory of the fall, winning by five shots over Blue Mountain’s Adam Hall and Belhaven’s Cody Reiber. Garrett, a senior from Smithville, tied for the low round of the day with DePauw’s Stuart Alvey.
Botts, a sophomore from Lebanon, finished fourth overall after shooting six-over par 78 in the second round, while Johnson, a freshman from Tampa, Fla., tied for fifth, carding rounds of 75-76 on the par-72, 6,900-yard Deerfield course. Broyles posted a second-round 74, tying for seventh, as Cumberland won by 22 shots over Blue Mountain.
Freshmen Zach Kean and Ian Whittemore both tied for 53rd and freshman Jake Dailey placed 63rd in the tournament.
Cumberland finishes the fall schedule Oct. 28-29 at the RedHawk Invitational at Lawrenceburg Country Club in Lawrenceburg.
