The Friendship Christian Commanders celebrated senior night against the Fayetteville High School Tigers for the final regular season home game.
It turned out the Commanders were in a celebrating mood.
The Commanders scored first and quick on their first time touching the ball on a 65-yard touchdown pass by quarterback A.J. Long to Austin Taylor, who couldn’t stay out of the end zone.
The Commanders remained ruthless in the first quarter, scoring on their next three possessions, first on a 45-yard run by Long, next on another Taylor touchdown, a run from 19 yards out, and finally on a Steven Hollis 72-yard run.
The Tigers would finally get on the board after a Long interception with :22 left in the first quarter. Tiger quarterback Trevonte Emmons then capitalized by throwing a 20-yard touchdown pass to Darren Patterson.
Friendship wouldn’t let up though, scoring again on their first possession of the second quarter. The Commanders marched down field behind the arm of Long and capped the drive with a 16-yard touchdown pass from Long to Hollis.
Fayetteville didn’t give up and then answered. Marquice Emmons took the ball from 3 yards out in for a touchdown, but then failed to convert for the two points.
Again, the Commanders struck back with big runs by Hollis and Taylor. Hollis would eventually score the touchdown on an 8-yard run.
In what seemed to be a volley of scores, the Tigers took their next possession in from a 24-yard pass from Emmons to Jacob Pigg.
With less than a minute remaining the in the half the Commanders went out with a bang on a 58-yard touchdown pass from Long to Taylor.
At the half the Commanders led the Tigers 49-18.
Though the Tigers had the ball first in the second half, an interception from Emmons to Gene Carman quickly put out any spark.
Taylor would continue his destructive path for the Commanders, scoring another touchdown on a 38-yard run. Blake Grosch then missed the extra point; his only miss of the game.
The scoring seemed to cease in the second half as the Tigers came up empty-handed in both the third and fourth quarters.
The Commanders would score once more in the game, early in the fourth quarter, on a bobbled snap by the Tigers that gave them a safety to add two to their score.
The final score put Friendship over Fayetteville 57-18.
