Seniors Harry Mason and Luke Wilson both scored twice and assisted on a pair of goals, leading Cumberland to a 5-1 victory over Bluefield College on Senior Day in men’s soccer action Saturday at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field.
Mason scored just 86 seconds into the match and Wilson added another goal before the half, as the Bulldogs (5-11-1, 4-5-0 Mid-South) ended a three-match losing streak. Mason tallied a second goal in the first 15 minutes of the second half and Wilson added his second goal less than two minutes after the Rams (8-8-1, 3-5-0) pulled within two in the final 15 minutes of the match.
Mason scored from 10 yards out on an assist from freshman Alex Marr in the opening seconds. Wilson found the back of the net in the 34th minute on Mason’s assist, giving the Bulldogs a 2-0 edge at the break.
The duo hooked up again in the 59th minute, with Mason registering his 16th goal of the season on a header. Bluefield’s Michael Callaghan converted a penalty kick in the 76th minute, but Cumberland responded quickly.
Wilson added his second goal of the match and fourth of the year just 113 seconds later, firing into an open net on another assist from Mason. Freshman Tom Reilly posted the final goal for the Bulldogs in the 84th minute on an assist from Wilson.
Mason, Wilson, Nathan Gillespie, Eric Clark, Mark Harrison, Marconi Neto and Francisco Alva were all honored before the match as part of Senior Day activities.
Cumberland finishes the regular season schedule Tuesday against Georgia Gwinnett at 3 p.m. and will travel for a quarterfinal match in the conference tournament on Nov. 9.
