BOWLING GREEN, Ky. — Cumberland placed second overall as a team and JR Clemons and Theo Shipp both finished in the Top 10 individually over the weekend at the Southern Kentucky Collegiate Classic at Southern Lanes.
Clemons placed fourth overall, knocking down 1,097 pins in five games, including 243 and 241 in the first two games. The senior from Nashville finished behind Louisville’s Brandon Shepherd and Jon Taylor and Victory’s Robby MacGregor.
Shipp, a senior from Grandview, Mo., collected 244 pins in his third game and 223 in the final game, tying for ninth with Campbellsville’s Jordan Sallee with 1,037 pins. Only 12 of 71 competitors finished with more than 1,000 pins in the event.
Freshman Anh Nguyen posted a 19th-place showing with 958 pins, while senior Ryan Cox had 925 and sophomore Jenn Fitzgibbons registered 719 pins in four games. Junior Danielle Chaffin rolled the other game, recording 151.
In the team standings, Louisville won the 10-team varsity event with 7,765 pins overall after the five individual games and 12 games of Baker play. Cumberland’s team knocked down 7,205 pins for second place, the squad’s best showing of the fall.
Cumberland will compete again this weekend at the Brunswick Southern Classic at Brunswick Zone in Marietta, Ga.
