LAWRENCEBURG — Sophomore Ryan Botts carded an even-par 71 and freshmen Zach Johnson and Zach Kean recorded rounds of 73 and 74, respectively, leading Cumberland on Monday in the first round of the RedHawk Fall Invitational at Lawrenceburg Country Club.
Botts is tied for sixth with Faulkner’s Shane Wright and trails Faulkner’s Javier Gonzalez by three shots for the overall lead. Faulkner’s Hrafin Gudlaugsson, Martin Methodist’s Austin Perrin and Blue Mountain’s Sam Cooper posted rounds of two-under par 69, while Faulkner’s Brandon Goodwin stands at one-under par 70.
Johnson is tied for ninth after shooting two-over par 73 while Kean is tied for 13th, carding a three-over par 74. Senior Austin Garrett registered his worst round of the fall at six-over par 77 (t24th) and sophomore Peyton Broyles stands 27th overall after recording an eight-over par 79.
Cumberland ranks third in the team standings, four shots back of Blue Mountain and 10 shots behind Faulkner heading into Tuesday’s final round, the final event of the fall for the Bulldogs.
Bulldog women lead field at RedHawk Invitational
LAWRENCEBURG — Cumberland leads by four shots in the team standings and four players stand in the Top 10 individually for the Bulldogs after the first round Monday of the RedHawk Fall Invitational at Lawrenceburg Country Club.
Cumberland leads the six-team field by four shots over Bethel and 14 shots ahead of Union University.
Junior Katie Legge leads the individuals for the Bulldogs after carding a six-over par 77. She is tied for third overall, one shot behind Faulkner’s Emma Sears and Bethel’s Xinyan Yu heading into Tuesday’s final round.
Senior Kayla Smith is one shot behind Legge, posting a seven-over par 78, while senior Lindsey Taylor and sophomore Quincy Hogan both shot 12-over par 83, tied for ninth individually. Freshman Ashley Miceli carded a 92 in her first round of the fall.
The second round will conclude today in the final event of the fall for the Bulldogs.
