ATLANTA — The Southern Athletic Association announced that Berry's Rachel Sandoval earned the season's first Women's Swimmer of the Week award.
Sandoval, a Friendship Christian School graduate who swam for Lebanon’s Middle Tennessee Swim Club, had quite the meet against Centre. She placed 1st in the 50 Free with a time of :24.82, and 1st in the 100 Free with a time of :55.43. She also anchored the 200 free relay in a time of :24.52.
Sandoval is a senior pursuing an animal science degree. She maintains a 3.65 grade-point average and has been a contributing member to the women's Academic All-American team for the past three years.
As a junior Sandoval earned first-team all SAA conference honors. She currently holds two individual school records in the 50 freestyle; 24.56 and the 100 freestyle; 54.27 as well as one pool record in the 100 freestyle (55.24). Sandoval is also a member of all five school record- holding relay teams.
"Rachel is an exceptionally hard worker at practice as evidenced by her fast swims, both with the records she holds and her performances at Centre," said head coach Paul Flichbaugh. "We can always count on Rachel to be a soft-spoken team leader, demonstrated by her actions."
