Cumberland will play host to Bluefield in a quarterfinal match in the 2013 Mid-South Conference Championships, as announced by the league office on Sunday.
The Bulldogs and Rams will play Saturday at 1 p.m. at Lindsey Donnell Stadium-Kirk Field, the second straight year CU has hosted a quarterfinal match in the conference tournament. Cumberland defeated Shawnee State in last year’s outing in Lebanon.
The squad posted a 5-0 victory over Bluefield just 10 days ago in the final regular season home match for the Bulldogs. A victory would send Cumberland into the semifinals at noon Central Time on Nov. 14 at Lindsey Wilson in Columbia, Ky.
Cumberland played at Lee on Monday night in the Bulldogs’ regular season finale.
Men hit the road for MSC Championships
The Cumberland men’s soccer team will head to the University of the Cumberlands for a quarterfinal match in the 2013 Mid-South Conference Championships, as announced by the league office on Sunday.
The Bulldogs and Patriots will play Saturday at 1 p.m. Central Time in Williamsburg, Ky. Cumberland won a quarterfinal match on the road last season at Campbellsville University before falling, 5-4, to top-seeded Lindsey Wilson in the semifinals of the conference tournament.
CU dropped a 2-1 decision in overtime against UC in the regular season, also in Williamsburg, with Pedro Antonelli scoring in the 99th minute. The Bulldogs were 0-6-1 in extra time this season, including 0-3-0 in conference action.
Cumberland is the No. 5 seed in the tournament and faces the fourth-seeded Patriots. A Bulldog victory would send CU into a 5 p.m. Central Time semifinal match against the winner of Lindsey Wilson and Shawnee State on Nov. 14 at Lindsey Wilson in Columbia, Ky.
