CAMPBELLSVILLE, Ky. – Mackenzie Gass and Abby Shaw each recorded double-digit kills, but the Cumberland volleyball squad was not able to overcome a .304 attack percentage from Campbellsville in a 3-0 loss Thursday night at the Powell Athletic Center.
The Tigers’ (24-7, 14-4) Rinata Aisena was dominant at the net, notching 16 kills while hitting .519 in the contest.
Kasi Wells led the way for the Bulldogs (14-20, 5-13) with 12 assists, and Laura Peavy picked up a match-high 15 digs.
Cumberland stayed close in the first set, trailing by just two at the 16-14 mark before Campbellsville closed out the frame on a 9-2 run to finish with its biggest lead.
The second was not played nearly as close as the Tigers jumped out to a 16-3 lead thanks in part to an 11-0 run after falling behind 2-0. Cumberland was not able to keep it close, falling 25-11.
In the third and final set, the Bulldogs remained within just a couple of points, looking at a two-point deficit at 11-9. Campbellsville followed with its third big run of the contest, rattling off 11 of the next 14 points to grab control. The final set finished at 25-15.
The game marked the final regular season contest for CU, who now looks forward to the beginning of the Mid-South Conference Championships beginning November 15 in Louisville, Ky. The Bulldogs will likely square off against top-seeded Lindsey Wilson in the opening round.
