BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee and the Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association named Friendship Christian School the winner of the championship series for 2012-13 at an event Thursday in Nashville.
The BlueCross Championship Series is designed to recognize athletic excellence and sportsmanship in high schools across the state.
“We are honored to be recognized and have this award given to our school,” said John McNeal, Friendship’s athletic director. “We are dedicated to excellence in all sports and thank Blue Cross Blue Shield and TSSAA for this recognition.”
The BlueCross Championship Series recognizes those Tennessee high schools with the highest performing athletic programs each school year. Friendship Christian School was awarded points based on quarterfinal, semifinal, final round and championship appearances and received a $2,500 cash donation from BlueCross.
“We are humbled for our coaches and student-athletes to receive this award that recognizes athletic excellence and sportsmanship, and are excited about the future of our program," said Jon Shoulders, Friendship president.
McNeal and Randall Dunn, executive vice president, accepted the award on the school’s behalf.
Friendship Christian School won three TSSAA state championships in 2012-13, taking titles in football, volleyball and baseball.
