Christiana’s boys raced past host Southside 54-22 in middle-school basketball Tuesday.

The Cougars led 17-3 following the first quarter and 35-8 at halftime as the Saints slipped to 2-3 for the season.

“They were too fast for us,” Southside coach Kevin Huddleston said. “They just outran us.”

Tim Goodrich scored 16 points and Jarek Campbell 10 for Christiana.

Ethan Shelton scored six points for the Saints while Cameron Marshall and Russell Riggan each finished with five, Nathan Harris four and Shawn Hamlin and Aiden Usher a free throw apiece.

Southside will play host to Tuckers Crossroads on Thursday with the girls tipping off at 6 p.m. It will be a Think Pink night as cancer survivors associated with the school will be honored.

Kittrell FTs lift MJCA boys past TXR

TUCKERS CROSSROADS — Andrew Kittrell connected on three free throws in the final 12 seconds Monday night to lift Mt. Juliet Christian’s boys past Tuckers Crossroads 44-42.

Kittrell connected on two from the line with 12 seconds left to put the Saints up by a point. He then rebounded a missed Hornets free throw and was fouled, hitting 1 of 2 from the stripe as Mt. Juliet Christian, a loser to Watertown in last Thursday’s opener, pulled even at 1-1.

Tuckers Crossroads led 14-12 following the first quarter, trailed 23-19 at halftime and was back in front 30-27 going into the fourth.

Alex Pitman scored 16 points while Kittrell collected 12 with six rebounds. Cole Alsup added seven points, Caylor Bates and Josh Jose three each, Jacob Hall two and Noah Michael a free throw.

Commanders drop opener at Lipscomb

NASHVILLE — Friendship Christian’s boys opened their middle-school basketball season Monday night with a 44-32 loss at Lipscomb Academy.

The Commanders led 6-4 following the first quarter but fell behind 21-14 by halftime and 33-21 going into the fourth.

Point guard Mike Jones Jr. led Friendship with 11 points. Dillon Holland scored seven, Hanley Sobieszczyk six, Ben Jamison four and Matthew Skeen and Seth Filson four apiece.

Friendship’s sixth-graders won at the Bay Family Sportsplex over Providence Christian 37-18 Tuesday.

The Commanders led 21-6 at halftime and 30-8 going into the fourth quarter to improve to 2-0. Friendship beat Goodpasture at home 38-20 last week.

Jared Dickey dropped in 10 points from the post for Friendship while Camden Hayslip and Justin Seagraves each scored nine, Grayson Cole a three-pointer and Bryce Miller, Cade Holcombe and Jacob McNamee two apiece.

Friendship’s middle school will travel to Nashville to take on Christ the King next Tuesday. The sixth-graders will make the same trip Nov. 22.
