Watertown’s girls led from virtually the get-go in a 40-27 triumph at Winfree Bryant on Thursday night.
Afterward, Winfree Bryant’s boys blew the game open in the second half of a 40-17 victory.
The Tigerettes were up 12-8 following the first quarter, 22-12 at halftime and 25-22 going into the fourth as Winfree Bryant fell to 1-3.
Maria Alloco threw in three 3-pointers in leading Watertown with 16 points. Brenna Luttrell added eight points, Meagan Nix five, McKenna George and Alhinya Pinkston, Ashlea Dickens, Emma Edwards and Victoria Patterson two apiece.
Winfree Bryant point guard Maleigha Oldham hit a pair of threes for half of her 12 points. Samantha Newton scored six, Allie Dozier three and Katie Smith, Jillian Tramel and Aliyah Stevenson two each.
In the boys’ game, the Aviators led 5-3 following the first quarter and 11-10 at halftime before pressing in the second half and packing the defense around Preston Tomlinson as Winfree Bryant opened a 30-12 margin going into the fourth.
Kemon Neuble tossed in 12 points and fellow post Xavier Mills 10 for Winfree Bryant. Elijah Terry scored six, Chase Danko and Jaquanta Rhodes four each and Braden Reece and Kameorn Davis two apiece as the Aviators pulled even at 2-2.
Austin Lasater led Watertown with six points while Jayden Jobe and Brandon Allison each threw in three, Jared Thompson and Nathan Fish two apiece and Preston Tomlinson a free throw.
Winfree Bryant will travel to Stewarts Creek on Tuesday for a 6 p.m. double header.
Southside boys fight off TXR
Southside’s boys fought off a challenge from visiting Tuckers Crossroads in a 44-40 Saints victory Thursday night.
Tuckers led 14-9 following the first quarter before Southside edged in front 20-18 by halftime and 30-28 going into the fourth as the Saints moved to 3-2 for the season.
Ethan Shelton fired in 15 points from the Southside backcourt while Cameron Marshall tossed in 12 from inside. Braden Costley scored six points, Griffin Creswell and Baylor Franklin three each, Eric Odum two and Nathan Harris a free throw.
Jonathan Presley poured in three 3-pointers in pacing the Hornets with 12 points while backcourt partner William Dedman dropped in 10. Nathan Njezic scored six, Ethan White and Addison Clinton three each and Givey Phillips, Garrett Hughes and Evan Britt two apiece.
Southside will play host to Carroll-Oakland on Monday night with the girls tipping off at 6 p.m.
