MT. JULIET— Lauren Wankel tossed in 22 points and Amanda Wall 16 for Mt. Juliet Christian’s girls in a 57-35 win over Hendersonville Christian in a TSSAA Hall of Champions game Friday night.
The Lady Saints led 17-12 following the first quarter, 38-20 at halftime and 47-25 through three as they improved to 2-0.
Meredith Orr notched nine points for the Lady Saints while Caroline Scott scored six and Carly Hummel and Abi Hildabrand two each.
Elizabeth Hochstetler fired in five three-pointers in leading the Lady Crusaders with 20 points.
In the boys game, the Saints fell, 77-48.
Hendersonville Christian outscored the Saints in every quarter, taking a 16-10 lead after one and 33-20 after two. Mt. Juliet Christian Academy trailed 54-37 going to the final stanza.
Justus Willis led the Saints with 11 points while Newman Ward had nine, Alex Graves and Landon Boyd each added seven, and Zack Jones had five. Wyatt Oberg, Nathan Green and Andrew Headrick finished the scoring with four, three and two points, respectively.
Juan Dasilva's 18 points led the Crusaders. Both teams are 1-1.
Mt. Juliet Christian will play host to Davidson Academy in the regular-season opener at 6 p.m. Tuesday.
McClain Christian falls
HERMITAGE — Charlie Booher had nine points, but McClain Christian Academy fell to 0-3 with a 58-41 loss to the homeschool Middle Tennessee Heat at Hermitage Church of Christ on Friday night.
Jon Whitener, Eli Shouse and Evan Tubb added eight, seven and six points, respectively, for MCA, which trailed only 25-23 at halftime and 36-32 going to the fourth quarter. The Heat ended the game on a 27-9 run.
"Our kids really battled," MCA coach Scott Liptrap said. "Things just got away from us late. The effort is certainly there -- we just have to reduce our mistakes."
MCA will return to action Dec. 3 at home against Zion Christian.
"We've got a break in the schedule now, so we'll work hard and fix what we need to to be ready for Zion," Liptrap said.
