HUNTSVILLE, Ala. – Senior guard TaCouya Allen scored 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting as Cumberland jumped out to an early lead and kept its foot on the gas en route to a 68-26 victory over Oakwood University on Saturday night at Ashby Auditorium.
The Bulldogs held the Lady Ambassadors to just 4-of-25 shooting in the opening half, opening up a 33-12 advantage at the break. Junior Kishaun Williams paced Cumberland in the frame with nine points.
Oakwood’s Simona Nappier opened up the second half on a roll, connecting on three attempts from behind the arc to tighten the gap, but Cumberland continued to overmatch the Lady Ambassadors with stifling defense.
Cumberland held Oakwood to 14 percent shooting in the second period, while connecting on 37 percent of its own shots. Junior forward Brittany Lawson led the Bulldogs in the second, scoring nine of her 11 points after the break.
Williams added a team-high nine rebounds and sophomore Katie Smith tacked on seven as the Bulldogs out-rebounded the Lady Ambassadors 40-32, including a 14-7 advantage on the offensive side of the ball.
Cumberland returns home to the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center next Saturday for a contest against Talladega College. The Bulldogs fell to the Tornadoes, 85-76, Nov. 26.
