Bulldogs have tough day at Indiana Tech Duals

Tyler Smith posted an 11-3 Major Decision over Indiana Tech’s 15th-ranked Andre Dunn at 285 on Saturday.

 

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Cody Linton won three matches while Kirk Johnson and Tyler Smith each posted victories over ranked foes, leading the Cumberland wrestlers Saturday in dual match at Indiana Tech.

The Bulldogs, ranked eighth nationally, dropped three of the four dual outings, including a 24-18 loss to No. 5 Great Falls, 23-13 to 11th-ranked Indiana Tech and 23-12 versus No. 19 Oklahoma City. CU defeated Missouri Baptist, 24-19.

Linton, ranked No. 2 at 184, lost by fall at 1:02 to third-ranked Kamron Jackson from Great Falls before posting a 3-2 decision over Indiana Tech’s Taylor DeLong and a 7-1 decision over Oklahoma City’s Derek Sivertsen. His third victory came by forfeit against Missouri Baptist.

Johnson, ranked 10th at 165, won a 2-0 decision over No. 7 Shawn Lau from Great Falls and won by fall at 5:00 versus Missouri Baptist’s Cameron Ream. The sophomore lost a 4-2 decision to Indiana Tech’s Kafuba Donzon and dropped a 16-2 major decision versus Oklahoma City’s No. 4 Zach Skates.

Smith posted an 11-3 major decision over Indiana Tech’s 15th-ranked Andre Dunn at 285 and won an 11-6 decision versus Oklahoma City’s Destin Theus. He lost a 4-2 decision to No. 4 David Lopez from Great Falls and a 14-5 major decision versus Missouri Baptist’s ninth-ranked Julius Anglikas.

Zeke Hunt, ranked fifth at 174, registered victories in both of his matches, the first one by fall at 4:16 over Taylor Vaughn from Great Falls and by fall at 1:00 versus Missouri Baptist’s Estaban Rau.

Scott Stewart, ranked ninth at 197, split his four outings as well, posting a 7-3 decision over Indiana Tech’s Brandon Sunday and by forfeit against Great Falls. He lost by fall at 5:00 versus Missouri Baptist’s Lucas Keene and dropped a 3-2 decision to Oklahoma City’s Cody Sivertsen.

Dalton Baysinger also went 2-2 on the day, losing the first two outings before recording an 8-7 decision against Missouri Baptist’s Aaron Hane and a 7-3 decision over Oklahoma City’s Travon Smith. He dropped a 15-5 major decision to Michael Ruiz from Great Falls and lost by fall at 2:07 versus Indiana Tech’s No. 7 Travis Barroquillo.

The Bulldogs will return to action Jan. 5, with a home dual match against St. Andrews at the Dallas Floyd Center.
