GREENEVILLE — Wilson Central’s girls set a Landair Ladies’ Classic single-game record with 15 three-pointers in a 66-39 thumping of nearby North Greene on Monday afternoon at Hal Henard Hall.
Kendall Spray, Kayla Jackson and Rachel Burkett each bagged four triples. Spray scored 16 points, Jackson 14, Burkett 12 and Hailey Averitt 10 as the Lady Wildcats connected on 15 of 28 from downtown in climbing to 9-3.
Central snapped the previous record of 13 treys set by Bradley Central in 2000.
Hannah Brewer supplied seven points, Dominique St. Louis three and Addison Byrd and Piper Elrod two each for the Lady Wildcats, who will face Shelbyville for seventh place at noon CST today.
“They did a good job on Dominique,” Lady Wildcat coach Bud Brandon said of his post player. “She only got three attempts.
“This team is beginning to work together and seeing each player pull for each other in setting a tournament record was amazing. It was about like getting two wins in one night.”
The Lady ‘Cats led 23-8 following the first quarter, 37-20 at halftime and 47-28 through three periods.
Mendy McNeese scored 19 for North Greene.
The Lady Wildcats were coming off a 63-44 win over West Greene on Saturday.
Central built its point total from the inside game. Averitt led the Lady Wildcats with 15 points, including a pair of threes, while St. Louis finished with 15. Spray also scored 15 while Brewer supplied seven, Byrd five and Jackson and Nathalie Ventura two apiece.
Candy Majors led the Lady Buffs with 16 points and six assists while fellow guard Kristen Johnson added 11 points as West Greene fell to 3-11.
The Lady Wildcats led 18-10 following the first quarter, 38-17 at halftime and 44-29 through three.
Bruce’s four triples lead Lebanon to third at Lenoir City
LENOIR CITY — In a battle of former state powers, Lebanon’s girls snagged third place in the Lenoir City Christmas Tournament with a 66-36 thumping of Oak Ridge on Saturday.
Lebanon led 19-9 following the first quarter, 35-13 at halftime and 54-23 through three periods as the Devilettes moved to 5-7 going into the New Year.
Morgan Bruce bagged four three-pointers in leading Lebanon with 18 points while Madison Sloan sank two triples on her way to 14. Kelsey Yarbrough notched nine points, Taylor Lebo eight, Ireland Elie six, Jameka Dowell and Bailey Sells four each, Kendra Brown two and Jordyne Denney a free throw.
Lebanon will return to the District 9-AAA grind Friday night at Station Camp beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Watertown wears out Gordonsville 61-41
WATERTOWN — Too bad for Watertown this game won’t count in the District 8-A standings as the Tigerettes wore our old rival Gordonsville 61-41 Saturday in the fifth-place game of the Watertown Christmas Tournament.
The Tigerettes led 12-7 following the first quarter, 33-17 at halftime and 46-30 through three periods as they improved to 10-5 for the season.
Alicia Jennings finished with 15 points and Shelby Mofield 14 for Watertown. Jasmine High and Bobbi Staats each added eight points, Jenna Haun seven, Dae Dae Nunley four, Katie Dalton and Mya Huddleston two apiece and Mya Gaines a free throw.
Charli Vaden finished with 15 points and Hailey Crawford 10 for Gordonsville.
Watertown will return to district action Friday with a trip to new 8-A member Goodpasture for a 6 p.m. tipoff in Madison.
McCabe’s 32 leads Lady Bears past Memphis East
MURFREESBORO — Mt. Juliet’s girls wore out their second straight Memphis opponent on Saturday, taking out Memphis East 71-32 in the Warrior Classic at Riverdale’s Johnny Parsley Memorial Gym.
The Lady Bears, who whipped Memphis Central some 22 hours earlier, led 17-8 following the first quarter, 41-16 at halftime and 67-24 through three as they improved to 10-1 entering the New Year.
Center Sally McCabe led the Lady Bears with 32 points while forward Raeyana DeGray knocked down 19. Twin sister Ronjanae DeGray notched nine points, Savannah Sanders five, Ashley Roby a three-pointer, Skye Riggan two and Tyia Waller a free throw.
Adrieana Wrister’s 14 points led the Lady Mustangs.
Mt. Juliet will return to the District 9-AAA grind Friday when the Lady Bears welcome Beech to West Wilson at 6:30 p.m.
