Wildcat wrestlers finish second at Ryan

Central’s Austin Richard won the 132-pound division, taking his 200th career victory along the way, and remained undefeated for the season.

NASHVILLE — Wilson Central’s wrestling team finished second in the prestigious Father Ryan Tournament over the weekend.

The Wildcats trailed the host Irish by 27 points when the dust settled. Auburn, Ala., was third and Franklin fourth.

Central’s Austin Richard won the 132-pound division, taking his 200th career victory along the way, and remained undefeated for the season.

Other Wildcat champions were John Michael Jenkinson at 145 after starting the tournament as only the No. 5 seed; Perry Baltz, who defeated last year’s Arkansas state champion at 182; and John Kramer at 220.

Christian Cerrito, at 120 pounds, and Mike Binns, 152, were runners up. Eddie Small finished third at 138 and Caleb Berta fourth at 113.

The Wildcats, who remained fourth in the latest Luther Killian state poll released Monday, are 24-4 for the season. They lost to No. 1 Baylor 38-34 and No. 3 Ryan 39-27 during the holiday break.
