Wilson County honored: The Wilson County Friends of the NRA will be honored at a Nashville banquet next month, recognized for making the "National High Caliber Club" for the first time.
The honor goes to chapters around the county that have met or exceeded fund-raising goals during the past year.
Funds generated by auctions and related activities go to support various Friends of NRA causes, most notably school and youth groups that are involved in competitive shooting events.
Photo contest: The TWRA is holding its annual Tennessee Wildlife Magazine calendar photo contest. All interested photographers are invited to submit their favorite photos of hunting, fishing and wildlife species native to Tennessee for consideration.
If a photo is selected the photographer will receive $60, in addition to having his or her photograph included in the popular state-wide calendar.

Youth deer hunt: A final Young Sportsman deer hunt is set for Jan 11-12.
The regular state-wide deer season ends Jan.5. The Young Sportsman hunt is for youngsters 6-16, and each must be accompanied by a non-hunting adult 21 or older. Youths must meet Hunter Education requirements (complete a TWRA-certified course) or obtain a one-time exemption.
Quota turkey hunts: The application period is underway for 2014 spring quota turkey hunts. Applications will be accepted at any license agent, TWRA regional office, or on-line at tnwildlife.org
The 2014 turkey season opens March 29 and runs through May 11.
