Goodpasture breezes past Friendship

Goodpasture’s girls had no trouble breezing to a 73-40 win over host Friendship Christian at the Bay Family Sportsplex on Thursday.

Afterward, four Goodpasture boys scored in double figures as the undefeated Cougars pounced on the Commanders 70-47.

The Lady Cougars led 25-12 following the first quarter, 40-26 at halftime and 56-33 through three as they climbed to 11-4.

Cariona Hassell broke the 2,000-point barrier for her career with 25 points, including a pair of three-pointers, for Goodpasture. Morgan Warren also hit a pair of threes on her way to 20.

Friendship’s Taylor Patterson was just as hot, hitting five triples in leading the Lady Commanders with 20 points. Hailey Pittman scored six points, Rebecca Pettross and Abbey Hinton five each and Ashlyn Pittman four as FCS fell to 4-8.

Goodpasture’s boys led 30-11 following the first quarter and 52-14 at halftime as Friendship fell to 0-12.

Christian Lynn sank six three-pointers to pace Goodpasture with 28 points while Chris Kennedy connected for 12, including a pair of threes. Trevor Randolph sank 7 of 9 free throws as he and Jalen Hunter each had 11 as the Cougars climbed to 15-0.

Freshman forward Gregory Elliott led Friendship with 19 points while junior forward Colton Gaines collected 11. Andrew Wood had to work around foul trouble to score seven while Zach Blair, Michael Hawks and Joseph McNamee each notched two and Tyler Alverson and Mackey Bentley a free throw apiece.

All eight Commanders who dressed scored as one player was injured and another sick.

Friendship will return to East-Middle District 1-A action tonight when St. Andrew’s-Sewanee visits the Sportsplex for a 6 p.m. tipoff.
