MURFREESBORO — Friendship Christian’s boys pulled off a double win in the James C. Haile State Tournament at Middle Tennessee Christian School on Friday.
The middle school Commanders crushed Ezell-Harding 52-35 while the sixth-graders downed Eastside 43-26.
Friendship’s middle-schoolers led 25-11 at halftime as they improved to 7-4.
Point guard Mike Jones Jr., led Friendship with 16 points while Hanley Sobieszczyk scored 13 from the post. Ben Jamison added eight, Seth Filson four and Dillon Holland two.
Lucas Patrick finished with 14 for the Bulldogs from McMinnville.
Friendship will return at 5:45 p.m. Monday to face Van Buren County.
The sixth-graders led 31-7 at halftime as they climbed to 8-1.
Jared Dickey dropped in 17 points from the post, Grayson Cole 12 from the wing and Camden Hayslip 11 from the point. Justin Seagraves finished with five points, Alek Kulas four and Brad Emerson, John Ross Bryan and Lee Palmer Bridges a free throw each.
Friendship will travel to Brentwood Academy for a regular-season game next Friday with the girls tipping off at 5 p.m. The Commanders will return to MTCS next Saturday to take on the Thurman Francis-Pickett County winner at 2 p.m.
King leads West Wilson boys past Mt. Juliet
MT. JULIET — Dalton King had 16 points to lead a balanced attack as the West Wilson Wildcats knocked off host Mt. Juliet 48-41 at Tommy Martin Gym on Thursday.
Gavin Johnson and Dennis Stallings added 13 apiece for West Wilson, which trailed 24-21 at halftime before rallying in the second half.
Jeffrey Crawford, Nathaniel Paredes and Brian Aiken added two points apiece for West Wilson.
Tony Thompson was the big scorer for Mt. Juliet, scoring 18 points. Jordon Lockridge and Aiden Raines added 11 and eight points, respectively, while Carter Cavin and Zack Whittaker both scored two points.
Alsup’s triple-double lifts Baird’s boys to season-ending win
Dylan Alsup posted a triple-double Thursday night to lift Walter J. Baird’s boys to a season-ending 47-37 win over visiting Avery Trace.
Alsup sank six three-pointers on his way to a 27-point night for Baird. He also took down 12 rebounds and swiped 10 steals for a triple-double.
Daniel Covile and Eli McDearman each scored seven points, Polo Phillips four and Dorian Champion two for the Blue Devils, who finished an 8-10 season with three eight-graders, no seventh-graders and the remainder sixth-graders.
Baird’s sixth-graders will play in the James C. Haile State Tournament at 12:45 p.m. today against Loudon County North at Murfreesboro’s Middle Tennessee Christian School.
