MT. JULIET — Mt. Juliet Christian’s girls took a 37-32 triumph over visiting Trousdale County on Thursday night.
Afterward, Christian Lauderdale’s halfcourt heave at the final buzzer, his second desperation shot of the night, sent Trousdale’s boys back to Hartsville with a 44-43 win.
The Lady Saints trailed 20-16 at halftime and 26-24 going into the fourth quarter before coming back to their 11th win of the season against nine losses.
Lauren Wankel’s 13 points paced the Lady Saints. Amanda Wall tossed in two three-pointers on her way to 11 while Caroline Scott scored nine and Meredith Orr and Carly Hummel two each.
Ashley Cornwell connected on four triples in leading the Lady Jackets with 12 points.
In the boys’ game, Lauderdale, Trousdale’s place kicker in football, hit a three-pointer from three-quarter court to end the first quarter with a 17-10 Yellow Jacket lead.
Mt. Juliet Christian cut the margin to 38-34 going into the fourth and had the lead before Lauderdale broke the Saints’ hearts, sinking the home team to 9-11.
Lauderdale’s four triples enabled him to match Ricky Harrison’s 18 points.
Zack Jones’ 19 points led the Saints while Newman Ward tossed in 10, Alex Graves seven, Justus Willis four, Drew Headrick two and Wyatt Oberg a free throw.
Mt. Juliet Christian will celebrate Coming Home tonight when St. Andrew’s-Sewanee comes in for a 6 p.m. game.
