Wildcats to wrestle Jefferson County in state dual opener

Wilson Central will face Jefferson County in the opening round of the TSSAA Class AAA dual wrestling tournament during the 3:30 p.m. session Friday at the Williamson County Agriculatural Exposition Arena in Franklin.

First-round winners will come back for the quarterfinal round at 7:30 p.m. while the losers will fall into the consolation bracket at 9 a.m. Saturday.

The championship match of the 16-team tournament will be at 7 p.m. Saturday.

Win or lose, the Wildcats will face Blackman or Bearden in their second match. Heritage, Soddy-Daisy, Collierville and Brentwood are also in their bracket.

In the other bracket are Cleveland, Beech, Halls, Bartlett, Science Hill, Maryville, Cookeville and Ravenwood.

Central remained No. 4 in the Luther Killian state poll released Monday.

The Wildcats’ Conor Walls is already a state champion, having taken first place in this weight class in the junior-varsity state tournament this past Saturday at Ravenwood near Brentwood.

Central’s Brian Stover, Daniel Kuhn and Storm Long finished second in their classes and Jarrell Actkins and Kyle Reynolds third.
