Mid-South Women's Basketball Tournament bracket announced

Despite Saturday win, defending champion Lady Bulldogs fail to qualify

COLUMBIA, Ky. -- Mid-South Conference officials announced the 2014 MSC Women's Basketball Tournament bracket tonight following Saturday's regular season finales.

The conference tournament begins on Friday, March 7, with four quarterfinal games at the Dallas Floyd Recreation Center on the Cumberland campus in Lebanon. The tournament continues on Saturday, March 2 with the semifinals and concludes on Sunday with the championship game.

Host Cumberland, which won the tournament last year in Frankfort, Ky., failed to finish in the top eight of the standings needed to qualify despite winning on Senior Day Saturday.

MSC regular season champions and top-seeded Campbellsville (Ky.) (27-3, 16-2 in the MSC) and eighth-seeded Bluefield (Va.) (14-14, 7-11) opens the three-day tournament at 2 p.m. CT on Thursday.

Fourth-seeded Shawnee State (Ohio) (18-11, 11-7) and fifth-seeded Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) (19-11, 9-9) meet at 4 p.m. CT on Thursday in the day’s second quarterfinal.

In the evening session, second-seeded Georgetown (Ky.) (19-7, 13-5) plays No. 7-seed Rio Grande (Ohio) (18-12, 7-11) at 6 p.m. CT.

The nightcap features No. 3-seed Cumberlands (Ky.) (19-9, 13-5) and No. 6-seed Pikeville (Ky.) (13-17, 7-11) at 8 p.m. CT.

The tournament's semifinals are scheduled for 6 p.m. CT and 8 p.m. CT on Saturday with the finals set for 3:30 p.m. CT on Sunday.
