The Bulldogs (2-4) evened their record at 2-2 against NAIA competition this spring, with all four outings against ranked opponents, in the home opener for the squad. CU won at the last two doubles positions and the top five singles spots en route to the victory.

Borrero and Andres Burgos defeated David James Parker and Brezile Hamilton, 8-4, at No. 2 and Pedro Rodrigues and Garry Tokas claimed an 8-5 win at No. 3 over Jamie Sordyl and Oscar Chang Tun Jie. Graceland’s fifth-ranked Birkir Gunnarson and Jose Daniele Razo Torres posted an 8-4 win versus Marcelo and Diogo Soares at No. 1.

Lady Bulldogs lose final two matches in 5-4 defeat

Sofia Jaramillo and Amy Haberthier each posted three-set singles victories and Graceland overcame an early deficit to post a 5-4 win over 15th-ranked Cumberland in women’s tennis action Wednesday at the Tommy Gray Memorial Courts.

The Bulldogs (3-3) continue to play with just five players, giving away one point in both singles and doubles, as the squad has little margin for error.

Cumberland started strong, with Antea Dedić and Alena Gizdić registering an 8-5 victory at No. 1 doubles over Jessica Worring and Melynda Simmons and Angelica Sepulveda and Franki Jecker recording an 8-4 win at No. 2 against Fatima Zahra El Otmany and Jaramillo.

But the Jackets (5-2) quickly took the lead in singles, with 13th-ranked Worring defeating No. 32 Sepulveda, 6-1, 6-4. Gizdić posted a 6-2, 6-1, triumph over El Otmany at No. 2 and Dedić collected a 6-2, 6-4, victory versus Simmons at No. 3, but Graceland won the final two matches on the court.

Jaramillo came back to defeat Jecker at No. 4, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1, and Haberthier outlasted Tais Lacerda Bezerra, 6-2, 4-6, 6-3, at No. 5.
