LAFAYETTE — Tana Whited hit three run-scoring doubles Friday as Friendship Christian beat host Macon County 8-3 in high school softball action.
Whited drove in the doubling Courtney Petty in the first inning and followed Kelsi Dickey doubles in the third and seventh innings. Brittany Petry poked an RBI single in the seventh.
Kendal Kelsh allowed six hits and two walks before Whited relieved in the fifth and surrendered a hit and a walk as the Lady Commanders climbed to 7-4.
Friendship will play host to Upperman at 5 p.m. Monday.
Sanders strikes out 14 in MJ’s two-hit shutout of Siegel
MURFREESBORO — Savannah Sanders pitched a two-hit shutout of host Siegel in a 6-0 Mt. Juliet victory Friday night.
Sanders truck out 14 and walked none while the Lady Bears committed no errors as she improved to 7-0 and Mt. Juliet to 10-1.
Freshman Riley Walker drove in three Mt. Juliet runs on a double and three singles. Sophomore Kristin Hammer had a two-run single and senior Ashton Stowe singled three times, scored three runs and stole a base. Shelby Woodard singled and scored a run.
Kristen Jackson was twice hit by a pitch as Mt. Juliet benefitted from three Siegel errors, two walks and two hit batters.
Walker’s two-run single staked Mt. Juliet to a first-inning lead. Hammer’s two-run hit to left field came in the fifth. Walker’s two-out RBI single came in the seveth.
“Savannah continues to pitch well and the defense made the routine plays, which is a must for us to be successful,” Mt. Juliet coach Brad Rowlett said. “Offensively, we had a little more fire in our eyes today. We spent some time in the hitting facility today just working on mental toughness and hopefully we will continue to get tougher at the plate.
“Not a bad first two weeks of play and I feel good about where we are today and where we are headed. It is a good group of girls who have a common goal and at this time we are all pulling together in the same direction.”
Mt. Juliet will play host to county and District 9-AAA rival Lebanon at 5 p.m. Tuesday, followed by a junior-varsity game.
Unbeaten Lady Saints smack six home runs to beat Lighthouse
ANTIOCH — Mt. Juliet Christian cracked six home runs in a 26-9 win at Lighthouse Christian on Friday.
Junior Ashley Walling whacked three of the long balls, freshman Abi Hildabrand had two and eighth-grader Caitlyn Smith one as the undefeated Lady Saints smacked 20 hits.
Smith allowed two hits and struck out six in three innings to pick up the win. Liz Russ made her pitching debut this season and worked an inning.
Mt. Juliet Christian will travel to nearby Ezell-Harding, last year’s Division II-A state champions, in an East-Middle District 1-A game at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday.
