Mt. Juliet twice knocks off Portland 9-0

MT. JULIET — Mt. Juliet posted a pair of 9-0 District 9-AAA tennis shutouts of Portland on Monday.

Singles winners for the Golden Bears were Trevor Hunt over Parker Lusk 6-2, 6-1; Tyler Decker over Trevor Grove 6-0, 6-0; Ethan Johnston over Doug Davis 6-0, 6-0; Josh Johnston over Jimmy Davis 8-1, Josh Walker over Hogan Sherrow 8-0 and Cameron Walker over A.J. Newman 8-0.

Doubles winners were Hunt and Decker over Lusk and Grove 8-1, Johnston and Johnson over the Davises 8-0 and the Walkers over Sherrow and Newman 8-0.

Lady Bear singles winners were Taylor Bounds over Hope Houston 6-1, 6-0; Jacqueline Winstead over Markenzie Marlett 6-0, 6-1; Rachel Bounds over Emily James 6-1, 6-1; Elizabeth Stanley over Taylor Waldron 8-0, Paula Araque over Leah Kopley 8-2 and Andrea Hanson by forfeit.

Doubles winners were Taylor Bounds and Sally McCabe over Houston and James 8-2, Winstead and Stanley over Marlett and Waldron 8-1 and Hanson and Rachel Bounds by forfeit.

MJCA endures weekend sweep

Mt. Juliet Christian’s girls dropped a 9-0 decision and the boys a 4-0 match at St. Andrew’s-Sewanee on Friday.

Matters got no better for the Saints and Lady Saints the following day at Charlie Daniels Park as King’s Academy’s girls prevailed 5-0 and the boys 4-0.

Singles winners for St. Andrew’s’ girls were Katja Sievert over April Bennett 6-1, 5-7, 10-7; Mason Goodson over Sarah Grady 6-0, 6-0; Julia Cammack over Abby Lusk 6-1, 6-0; Lucy Howick over Caroline Robeson 6-1, 6-0; Kelly Hsu over Peyton Raymer 8-1 and Stella Quin over Chloe Blansett 6-4.

Doubles winners were Sievert and Cammack over Bennett and Grady 8-4, Goodson and Howick over Lusk and Raymer 8-2 and Quin and Fey Shen over Robeson and Blansett 8-4.

Singles winners for the Mountain Lions were Joshua Bramwell-Butler over Chipper Smith 6-1, 6-0; Yodong Yin over Samuel Schallenberger 6-3 and Licheng Shen over JeSuis’ Scott 6-0, 2-0.

Doubles winners were Bramwell-Butler and Yin over Smith and Shallenberger 7-1.

King’s Academy girls’ singles winners were Alex Webb over Bennett 6-3, Allison Harper over Lusk 6-0, Miranda Witt over Robeson 6-2 and Julia Weech over Raymer 3-0.

In doubles, Harper and Witt beat Bennett and Robeson 6-2.

Winners for King’s’ boys were Yiyin Cheng over Smith 6-3, Jeremy Weech over Shallenberger 6-0 and Adam Deatherage over Scott 6-0.

In doubles, the Lions’ Josh Turner and Elijah Connarser beat Smth and Scott 6-1.
