Bulldog golfers lead by two, four players in top 6

JAMESTOWN, Ky. — Cumberland’s Zach Kean and Peyton Broyles each carded two-over par 72 and Zach Johnson and Austin Garrett both shot three-over par 73, helping the Bulldogs to a two-shot lead in the team standings at the Blue Raider Classic/Mid-South Conference Spring Invitational on Monday at Lake Cumberland Golf and Country Club.

Kean and Peyton are tied for third and Johnson and Garrett are tied for sixth in the individual standings. Lindsey Wilson’s Chris Butler and Michael Pospisil from the University of the Cumberlands each posted rounds of two-under par 68 on the 6,345-yard course.

Kean, a freshman from Cross Plains shot 35-37 for his two-over par score while Broyles, a sophomore from Gainesboro, started poorly before finishing strong, carding scores of 39-33.

Johnson, another freshman for the Bulldogs who hails from Tampa, Fla., registered scores of 38-35 on his nine’s on Monday, while Garrett, a senior from Smithville, shot 39-34 for this three-over par score.

Sophomore and Lebanon native Ryan Botts is tied for 11th, recording a six-over par 76.

Cumberland leads by two strokes over Lindsey Wilson in the team standings and the Bulldogs are 10 shots ahead of the University of the Cumberlands.

JAMESTOWN, Ky. — Cumberland’s Kayla Smith is tied for fourth after shooting 84, leading the women’s golf team at the Blue Raider Classic/Mid-South Conference Spring Invitational on Monday at Lake Cumberland Golf and Country Club in Jamestown, Ky.

Smith, a senior from Greenbrier, carded nine-hole scores of 40-44 on the par-72, 5,894-yard course. She trails Bri-Anne Tokariwski by four shots heading into the final round.

Sophomore Quincy Hogan (Carrollton, Ky.) is tied for 16th after posting a first-round score of 91, while junior Katie Legge (Portland) is tied for 18th after shooting 93 on Monday. Freshman Kaleigh Chitwood struggled in the opening round for the second straight week, finishing in 38th with an opening-round 108.

Cumberland stands in fifth place in the eight-team event, eight shots behind Campbellsville. The University of the Cumberlands leads Lindsey Wilson by five shots for first place.
