JAMESTOWN, Ky. — Senior Austin Garrett posted an even-par 70, carding the best round of the day, and finished second individually while Cumberland placed second as a team as well on Tuesday at the Blue Raider Classic/Mid-South Conference Spring Invitational at Lake Cumberland Golf and Country Club.

Garrett was one of just seven players to shoot under 75 on a windy day on the par-70, 6,345-yard course. The Smithville native led the final with seven birdies and ranked first in scoring on the par-5’s at four-under. He finished one shot behind Michael Pospisil from the University of the Cumberlands, who was the first-round leader and held on for the victory after shooting four-over par 74 on Tuesday.

On a day when scores soared thanks to the wind and hilly conditions of the course, sophomore Peyton Broyles and freshman Zach Johnson each carded six-over par 76, with Broyles placing sixth and Johnson tying for seventh. Broyles registered six birdies and Johnson had five.

Freshman Zach Kean shot 72 in the first round but followed that with an 80 on Tuesday, tying for 11th. The Cross Plains native was one of just nine players (including Garrett) in the field to record an eagle. Sophomore Ryan Botts struggled for the second straight day, shooting 86 and tying for 35th.

Cumberland will play in the RedHawk Spring Classic at Canebrake Club in Athens, Ala., next Monday and Tuesday.
