MT. JULIET — After moving the District 9-AAA South Division game to Mt. Juliet due to wet grounds at Lebanon’s Brent Foster Field, the teams played three hours earlier than scheduled to beat the weather.

The Golden Bears not only beat the rain, they beat the Blue Devils 9-1.

Mt. Juliet scored two runs in each of the first two innings, pushed across three in the fourth and tacked on two in the sixth off Lebanon starter Jackson Arnold, who allowed nine hits and five walks in five-plus innings before Nolan Chambers finished.

The onslaught made it easy for Mt. Juliet’s Austin Smith, who allowed five hits and an unearned run while walking three and striking out four in seven innings to improve to 4-1.

Marshall Gei drove in two Mt. Juliet runs on three hits, including a double. C.J.  Kastner also doubled and singled while knocking in a score.

Lebanon scored in the top of the eighth when Taylor Bryan drove in Brady Estes. Jake Millay’s double was the Blue Devils’ only extra-base hit as the visitors slipped to 8-10.

The teams will conclude their two-game series at 7 p.m. tonight at Foster Field.
