DONELSON — Tuesday’s rain missed Donelson Christian, but Friendship Christian’s bats were thundering in the ballpark with four home runs in a 10-9 victory.
Tana Whited whacked two homers and Brice Dabbs and Brittany Petry one each as the Lady Commanders climbed to 17-8 for the season and 4-0 in the East-Middle District 1-A.
Back-to-back RBI singles to left field by Kaylee Davenport and Brooke Eakes staked Friendship to a 2-0 lead in the second inning.
After Donelson Christian cut the margin in half in the bottom of the inning, Whited homered off the center-field scoreboard in the third.
DCA got another run in the bottom of the third before Friendship erupted for six in the top of the fourth. Whited whipped a two-run double down the left-field line before Dabbs blasted a three-run homer to left-center. Petry followed with a home run off the top of the scoreboard.
Whited homered to left-center in the sixth.
Courtney Petty pitched the first four innings for the win, allowing two hits and eight walks while striking out six. Donelson Christian scored six in the fifth and sixth before Whited came on in the bottom of the seventh and worked around a pair of hits with a couple of strikeouts for the save.
Friendship out-hit Donelson Christian 13-8.
The Lady Commanders were coming off a five-homer Saturday as they finished second in the Macon County Tournament at Cookeville’s Cane Creek Park. Dabbs and Petty each poked a pair of home runs and Petry one.
Friendship is scheduled to play host to Wilson Central at 5 p.m. today.
Eighth-grader Smith pitches MJCA to 12-2 triumph
MT. JULIET — Eighth-grader Caitlyn Smith allowed three hits in a complete-game performance for Mt. Juliet Christian in a 12-2 trouncing of Hendersonville Christian on Monday.
Freshman Abi Hildabrand hit an RBI triple in the first inning and scored moments later on a single by Smith, who came through with an RBI double in the third before coming home on a hit by freshman Skylar Bowles.
Seven Lady Saints scored in the fourth inning. Sophomore Kendra Robertson singled in two of them and sophomore Liz Russ blasted a three-run homer.
Junior Ashley Walling scored on a fifth-inning wild pitch to end the game and lift the Lady Saints to 8-3 going into Tuesday’s scheduled East-Middle District 1-A doubleheader against visiting St. Andrew’s-Sewanee.
