Kelsh perfect in game 1 as FCS sweeps SAS

SEWANEE — Friendship Christian crushed outmanned St. Andrew’s-Sewanee 22-0 and 19-0 in a pair of three-inning East-Middle District 1-A softball games Friday.

Kendal Kelsh pitched a perfect game in the first game and a one-hitter in the nightcap, striking out seven in each and walking none as the Lady Commanders climbed to 19-9 for the season and 9-0 in district play.

RBI singles by Jordan Burton and Kelsi Dickey, a two-run hit by Tana Whited and a run-scoring fielder’s choice by Brittany Petry staked Friendship to a 5-0 first-inning lead in the opener.

Sarah hall singled in the second and scored on Burton’s fielder’s choice. Dickey drilled a two-run triple.

Fourteen Lady Commanders crossed the plate in the third inning as the visitors batted around twice.

Brittany Petry doubled and scored on Kaylee Davenport’s single. Following a Kelsh single, Brooke Eakes, who drew walks in her earlier trips to the plate, banged out a two-run single. Burton doubled and scored on Dickey’s home run to center field.

Petry singled for her second hit of the inning and came around on Davenport’s two-run single. Hall and Burton followed with RBI singles. Dickey singled and Taylor Patterson drove in the 14th run of the inning with a single.

In the nightcap, Friendship jumped to a 10-0 first-inning lead and tacked on nine more in the second before drawing a blank in the third.

Eakes and Burton led off the game with walks and scored on a double by Dickey, who came home on Brice Dabbs’ single. Taylor Patterson singled in a run and Eakes reached on a single before Burton doubled them both in. Dabbs reached on an overthrow to score the final runs.

Patterson singled to start the second and Dickey drilled a two-run triple. RBI singles by Dabbs, Patterson, Leah Miller and Burton rounded out the scoring.

Friendship will play host to district and county rival Mt. Juliet Christian at 3:30 p.m. Tuesday.
