‘Cats clinch spots in 9-AAA tennis tournament

The top six finishers in the eight-team district standings qualify for the postseason. Brackets will be finalized Monday night.

GLADEVILLE — Wilson Central’s boys and girls clinched spots in next week’s District 9-AAA team tennis tournaments with matching 8-1 wins over visiting Portland on Thursday.

The top six finishers in the eight-team district standings qualify for the postseason. Brackets will be finalized Monday night.

Singles winners for the Wildcats were Max Rahmani over Trevor Grove 8-1, Paden Robertson over Doug Davis 8-6, Jake Lamie over Hogan Sherrow 8-4 and Reece Gaddes over A.J. Newman 8-0.

Doubles winners were Nathaniel Dennison and Zack Baker over Grove and Davis 8-0 and Robertson and Chase McElfresh over Sherrow and Jimmy Davis  8-0.

Central also picked up forfeits at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.

Jimmy Davis was Portland’s winner 8-5 over Brandon Leach.

Lady Wildcat winners were Kansas Glasgow over Hope Houston 6-0, 6-0; Micheala Micco over Markenzie Marlett 8-2, Hallie Wolfe over Taylor Waldron 8-1 and Jennifer Beckham over Leah Kepley 8-3.

Doubles winners were Glasgow and Jackie Anderson over Houston and Emily James 8-1 and Micco and Lani Lee over Marlett and Kepley 8-3.

Like the boys, Central’s girls were awarded forfeits at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles.

James was Portland’s winner 9-8 [7-3 in the tiebreaker] over Rebecca Glenn.
