BARDSTOWN, Ky. – Junior Katie Legge shot a nine-over par 81 and senior Kayla Smith fired an 83, leading the Cumberland women’s golf team on Monday at the Mid-South Conference Championships here Monday at Bardstown Country Club at Maywood.
Legge couldn’t have started much worse, going double bogey-bogey-bogey on her first three holes (she started on the 15th) but recovered to shoot even par over the next seven holes. The Portland native double bogeyed the par-4 seventh hole and the par-4 11th but added another birdie on the par-5 10th and ended the round with three straight pars.
Smith began her round poorly as well, with a bogey on the 14th hole and a double on the 15th before posting two more bogeys before making the turn. The Greenbrier native played much more consistent on the front side, carding six pars and three bogeys, but she double bogeyed the 10th and 12th holes before collecting her only birdie of the day on her final hole, the par-4 13th.
Freshman Kaleigh Chitwood registered a pair of birdies on par-5’s but had just four pars during her round and sophomore Quincy Hogan recorded only three pars along with 12 bogeys.
Cumberland shot 346 as a team and stands sixth overall in the standings.
