Six tennis players earn MSC Scholar-Athlete accolades

Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically and maintain a 3.25 grade-point-average or above

Six Cumberland tennis players – Tais Lacerda Bezerra, Alena Gizdić, Pablo Borrero, Andres Burgos, Dylan Nelson and Pedro Rodrigues – were named Mid-South Conference Scholar-Athletes on Wednesday by the league office in advance of this weekend’s conference tournament.

Student-athletes must be a sophomore, junior or senior academically and maintain a 3.25 grade-point-average or above to be eligible for the award.

Bezerra, a senior from Curitiba, Brazil, has a 3.61 GPA in mathematics and Gizdić, a junior from Split, Croatia, carries a 3.67 in psychology.

Borrero, a sophomore from Pereira, Colombia, owns a 3.53 in marketing, while Andres Burgos, a junior from Mexico City, Mexico, has a 3.71 in business administration. Nelson, a sophomore from Crossville, carries a 3.59 in music, and Rodrigues, a senior from Batalha, Portugal, has a 3.75 in management.

A total of 24 men and 22 women were honored by the conference. Cumberland’s women will take on the University of the Cumberlands on Thursday at 8 a.m. CDT in the quarterfinals of the conference championships and the Bulldog men will play a yet-to-be-determined opponent at 1 p.m. in the quarterfinals.
