Four CU men's golfers earn All-Mid-South accolades

Smith, Legge earn second team All-MSC honors

BARDSTOWN, Ky. – Cumberland senior Austin Garrett and sophomore Ryan Botts were named first team All-Mid-South Conference and sophomore Peyton Broyles and freshman Zach Johnson garnered second team honors, as announced by the league office this week at the end of the conference championships at Bardstown Country Club at Maywood.

The two all-conference teams are based on the three Mid-South sponsored tournaments throughout the year, with each individual using the top five scores in the seven rounds of play.

Garrett won the Mid-South Fall Invitational and placed second at the MSC Spring Invite before tying for 10th at the conference tournament this week. The Smithville native carded rounds of 76-73-75 on the par-72, 6,844-yard Maywood course. Garrett was a first team All-MSC selection last year as well and earned All-Conference accolades in each of his last three years as a Bulldog.

Botts placed third at the fall tournament before tying for sixth at the conference tourney. The Lebanon native shot 4-under par on the first day to lead the field before firing rounds of 77-78 over the final 36 holes. He was a second team All-MSC selection last season.

Broyles tied for 12 at the MSC Fall Invite and placed sixth at the spring tournament before finishing 21st this week at the conference championship. The Gainesboro native carded rounds of 79-78-78. He was also a Second Team All-MSC honoree last season.

Johnson tied for seventh at the MSC Spring Invitational and finished 14th at the conference tournament despite battling illness all week. The Tampa, Fla., native was 1-over par after the opening round before posting two rounds of 78 over the final 36 holes.

BARDSTOWN, Ky. – Cumberland senior Kayla Smith and junior Katie Legge were named second team All-Mid-South Conference, as announced by the league office this week at the end of the conference championships at Bardstown Country Club at Maywood.

The two all-conference teams are based on the three Mid-South sponsored tournaments throughout the year, with each individual using the top five scores in the seven rounds of play.

Smith placed 10th at the Mid-South Fall Invitational in Georgetown, Ky., which was also the team’s first fall event, and finished seventh at the MSC Spring Invitational in Jamestown, Ky., before tying for 11th at the conference tournament. The Greenbrier native carded rounds of 83-81-79 in the 54-hole on the par-72, 5,812-yard course.

Legge placed 11th in all three MSC events this academic year, tying for 11th at the fall event and the conference tournament. The Portland native 81-79-83 during the conference tournament.

Smith and Legge were first team All-Mid-South selections and Legge was the MSC Co-Player of the Year in 2013.
