Cumberland’s Rich Williams was named the Mid-South Conference Men’s Golf Coach of the Year in a vote of league coaches released last week during the conference championships and the Bulldog men claimed the MSC regular season championship, as released by the league office at Bardstown [Ky.] Country Club at Maywood.

The first-year head coach led the Bulldogs to the Mid-South Conference regular season championship. Cumberland won the MSC Fall Invitational at Cherry Blossom Golf Club in Georgetown, Ky., and tied for second at the MSC Spring Invitational at Lake Cumberland Golf Club in Jamestown, Ky. The regular season title goes to the team that has the best combined results from those two events.

The squad won three times in the fall, including events at St. Catharine College and Millsaps College, and placed second in the team’s four other events this academic year before last week’s conference tournament. Ryan Botts and Austin Garrett also combined for three low medalist honors as well as three second-place finishes individually during the year.

The NAIA will release its final regular season poll as well as NAIA Championship qualifiers Thursday. Cumberland was ranked 19th in the last NAIA men’s golf coaches’ top 25 on April 11.
