It’s payback time as Saints run-rule MTCS for league championship

MTCS handed the Saints their only two losses of a 16-2 season. But the Cougars succumbed in six innings in the league title game.

CLARKSVILLE — Mt. Juliet Christian’s middle school baseball team won the Middle Tennessee Independent Baseball League tournament with a 13-2 over season nemesis Middle Tennessee Christian on Saturday at Clarksville Academy.

MTCS handed the Saints their only two losses of a 16-2 season. But the Cougars succumbed in six innings in the league title game.

“This is a huge win for us,” coach Mike Kittrell said. ”I can’t say enough about these guys and their efforts. I’m excited to see what the future holds for this group of kids. They are a very special group of young men. Our coaching staff is great and I really appreciate all that they did through the season.

“The good Lord has truly blesses us and I’m so thankful to be a part of what God is doing here at MJCA.”

Gavin Sellers pitched the full six innings for the win, striking out seven and walking three while the Saints played flawless defense.

Cole Alsup drove on two runs on three hits. Sellers doubled and drove in three runs, Dawson Perry knocked in two and Andy Pitman and Camden Burgess one apiece as each finished with two hits. Noah Michael doubled and Preston Sloan singled.
