MT. JULIET — Former Vanderbilt and NFL free safety Brenard Wilson has been named defensive backs coach at Mt. Juliet Christian.
He is the second person to join new coach Dan Davis’ staff. Middle school coach Mike Kittrell was the first.
After playing for the Commodores in the 1970s, Wilson manned the middle of the Philadelphia Eagles secondary for nine seasons [1979-87], including Super Bowl XV following the 1980 season. He closed out his NFL career with the Atlanta Falcons in ’87.
He went on to be an assistant coach at several stops, including Southeast Missouri State and the Arena League’s Nashville Kats. He has also coached at the high school level at several places in Tennessee, including Montgomery Bell Academy, his only previous private school stop.
Wilson will join the staff for spring practice, which began Monday.
